I have a zone1/2 annual season ticket... and need to buy monthlies to Reading

I can get a Reading to Ealing Broadway ticket that covers Reading - Zon 6543

would this plus my season be valid on a fast London Paddington train ?

thanks very much !

Yes. As long as you can show tickets to cover the full journey (however many tickets you have), you shoudlnt have any problems.

From the National Conditions of Carriage
    19. Using a combination of tickets
You may use two or more tickets for one journey as long as together they cover
the entire journey and one of the following applies:
    (a) they are both Zonal Tickets (unless special conditions prohibit their use);
    (b) the train you are in calls at the station where you change from one ticket to another; or
    (c) one of the tickets is a Season Ticket (which for this purpose does not include Season Tickets or travel passes issued on behalf of a passenger transport executive or local authority) or a leisure travel pass, and the other ticket(s) is/are not.

i.e. You are covered only on trains that stop at Ealing Broadway. However, there is still the "gap" between Ealing Broadway and the edge of Zone 2 to consider.

Mind you, I used to have a Zones 1-6 Travelcard and, if I wanted to travel to Stevenage, always asked for a ticket from "Boundary Zone 6" to Stevenage and never had a problem.
Boundary Zone 6 (on my line) is actually Hadley Wood and hardly anything calls there as they're all millionaires with private jets :)

In conclusion, I'd ask at the station.
    Can I help?

Yes it will be valid, but I dont think it will be valid on any of the fast services that are direct from Reading to Paddington, but will be valid on the stopping services via Slough etc.

Perhaps check at Paddington, but I have had problems in the past. Basically, the fast trains are the ones that are entered with barriers and as the trains are non stop to Reading then you need to insert a ticket that is valid to at least Reading or the first stop.

If you dont have one, it wont let you through, which I think both tickets will flag up. There is also a premium for season tickets from Reading for non stopping services, I cant remember exactly now, but I seem to think when I last checked it was something like £3500 for non stopping and £3000 for stopping service, something like that. It may have changed since though.

Ah reading above, it looks like that is the point they are making in Point B.

So I'm screwed under section 3 then... that would explain why they will sell me a single from London Zone2 boundy but that's not available as a weekly season... one MUST NOT BE A SEASON ?

so I am screwed then, If I want a fast train, then I have to pay for the last bit from Ealing into Paddington Twice, as I have alreay paid for it on my u/g season ticket....

    that's silly ;-(
