Clematis wilt
I have a lovely "Princess Diana" Clematis, its about 4 years old and in full flower.
I noticed yesterday morning it had wilted and looking very sad for its self.
We had some strong winds at the weekend, so I soaked it with water thinking it may be dry.
The stems are not broken.
What can I do please?

Sad. I've also just lost a large flowered clematis to wilt...... I think the bigger flowered types are more prone to it, such a shame. Oddly, the two other clematis in the same huge pot are fine! I don't think mine will recover this year. They usually do come back the following year. Keep watering it, maybe try a foliar feed - it's worth a go.0

There is an article on the RHS website today about clematis wilt which may be of some help.Sometimes not moving backwards is as much an achievement as moving forwards is on other times. (originally posted by kidcat)
It's only a bargain if you were going to buy it anyway!0 -
I have the same problem, a friend suggested clematis wilt. A quick google confirmed my fears and I have just chopped it all back. I need to get some fungal spray (will ask my parents if they have any already) to spray on what is left and then I shall be crossing my fingers and hoping for the best!
The active ingredient in the fungicide to look out for is Myclobutanil apparently.
Hope you manage to save yours.Official Mascot and Chief Cheerleader for the 'Mortgage Free in Three' Gang0 -
:eek:Thank you everyone for your advice.
The ground is very dry, so I have given the plant and the ground around it a thorough soaking again, then a foliar feed.
I am keeping my fingers crossed hoping it will perk up, if not it looks like the chop!!:eek:Member of the £2 savers club.£320

my mum gave me some advice for keeping a clematis happy and that is to put a couple of large bricks/rocks over where the roots would be - as they like a "hot head and cool feet" its certainly helped one that i bought from morrisons for 85p which had grown all round itself and had to be untangled - i've got about 10 flowers on it now
as for clematis wilt, i heard that larger leafed varieties were more prone?0
