Do you earn enough for a minimum acceptable standard of living?

I'd be fine for money if I could stop buying clothes and shoes.
And handbags.
I am like our moderator, I work about 10 hrs a day, cook, clean, walk the obese dog, go to the gym (so I am not the dogs obese owner) and then about midnight I actually do some real work.Retail is the only therapy that works0 -
It was on special offer and thought I would give it a try....I had a bit of a mad moment!

I can't wait for my fruit things outside to start bearing enough fruit to make jams at home, the gooseberries may be possible this year but the others are still very young and not quite up to the standard as yet.
I love gooseberry jam.....
I have blueberry and gooseberry jam about to be made....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
You are going to seriously make me jealous now...... you lucky thing! My blueberry bush failed rather spectacularly last year and it doesn't really seem to be any better this year...but the gooseberry one is looking mighty fine.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
How do the people who eat so many takeouts manage to stay fit? I'd be overweight - or more likely obese - if I ate what I wanted, when I wanted it.
I cycle 12km into work and 12km home each day on a flattish route. I struggle to keep the weight on despite 2 breakfasts a day plus pretty constant snacking.0 -
Agreed, when breastfeeding, no matter what I ate I seemed to lose weight.0

Is there some unseen link between G's cycling and C's breastfeeding?
I both earn more than I need and also (if I adjust for the unrealistic housing cost) spend less than I would need to have a minimum acceptable lifestyle.
Only difficulty is there is therefore little I can cut back when I am made redundant and the amount of benefits I will be entitled to isn't exactly going to make any odds - may be I should go and look for a job in the land of opportunity (Oz) - does anyone have any contacts out there?!I cycle 12km into work and 12km home each day on a flattish route. It was in response to the previous post about how people manage to eat loads and not put on weight. Gen gave one example, I gave another.
I'm sure there are more examples. Not everyone has to watch what they eat.0 -

I've nicked 8lb of blueberries and 9lb of gooseberries from my parents' garden - their blueberries failed last year, but are fantastic this....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

My alcohol spend is £0 over the past 16 years.
In fact have probably only spent about £20 in total, the year I was 18. Overindulged a little when I was 18, not to the point of hospital, but enough to promise myself never to drink the stuff ever again. It also tastes minging from what I remember; bitter, sour or sharp. I'm glad I never acquired a liking for it.
Also I don't like how it often turns people really nasty. I don't think I'm missing out on much by being teetotal.0 -
