multiple tenant registration fees

Hi All,
My partner and I have found a house we wish to rent via a residential letting agency and we are in the process of making it happen by filling out the forms.
The agency has stipulated that the registration fees total £188. This is made up of £120 for the 1st applicant in this case myself and the remainder for my partner.
I have queried if it is necessary to charge for a 2nd applicant as my income will comfortably cover 100% of the rent. They have responded by saying everyone that resides in the property who is over 18 must be credit checked.
Some other agencies I've checked only charge the applicant. Thereby if no 2nd application is made or is necessary only the 1st will be charged.
I feel like I'm being ripped off here. What do you think? And is there anything I can do about it?
Thanks

Your new agent is doing this the sensible way. In my opinion its negligent of the agent (who should be protecting the Landlord's interests) to do anything less than reference all adults who will be resident.
For example - you may have a shining credit record, but your partner may not/and or not be in a position to cover the rent.
If you split up and you leave without leaving your forwarding address, the Landlord and his agent would persue your partner for the rent who may not be able to pay the arrears.0
