The primary and secondary units are effectively in lieu of the old Standing Charge.

Most companies now charge extra for the first units each quarter; normally 225 units(pro-rata) for electricity and 1143 units for gas.

There are some companies that still have a standing charge and others(notably Ebico) that have a flat rate for all units.

I'm a little corcerned as I was in credit with Eon by some £126 but I've just checked online & its now down to £10. So I checked my last bill & the electricity was as expected but the secondary gas units said a whopping 5938 kWh & came to £200+.

Surely that can't be right can it? I don't really use the heating that much as I work & very rarely use the oven, I'm a sandwich girl lol.

    5938kwh isn't excessive for a winter quarter.

Are the meter readings actual (A) or estimated (E)? If estimated, are they reasonably near?

    Hi Dieseldiva,

Do you pay by monthly Direct Debit?

If so it is normal for any credit you build up to be reduced during the winter time as your usage is usually higher.

Was the last quarterly bill estimated?

Again if so your gas usage may have been underestimated making it look as though you’ve used a large amount this quarter.

I can take a look at the account for you and give my opinion if you’d like?

Just send me a private message with the house number and post code and I’ll try and help!
