Getting a refund for a downloaded game that doesn't work.

Firstly, I apologise if this is in the wrong section. This is my first post, so please be gentle with me.
I had an urge a couple of days ago to buy a game, couldn't be bothered to wait so decidedto buy it as a download. The company are called Direct2drive. First it took 2 days to get the download. When unzipped I tried repeatedly to load it, it tells me there is an error and it has to be shut down. After several e-mails to them requesting a refund, it is obvious they have no intention of doing so. They tell me that they just sell the games, and are not experts with the specifics of the game.
Paypal tell me that they can do nothing because it is a virtual product. I am more concerned with making a stand aainst unscrupulous sellers such as this than the money per se.
If anyone has any recommendations of where I could report this issue, I would be very grateful.
Than you in advance.

Trading Standards Quoting The Sales of good act (if it doesn’t work it's not fit for purpose).
Before you get to that stage, did you try (would they let you) d/l it again?
This next bit of information is dodgy to say the least & if I am breaking rules I apologise in advance.
I assume they sent you a CD key via Email?
If so you could torrent the game (most are just copies, with a cracked EXE that you copy over the original to play) & enter you CD key when you install it.
Are you sure that your machine is up to the required specs? http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri this program will tell you if it does0 -
If you can be sure that between it being pred and hitting the torrent site nobody put a trojan in it, perhaps.
I'd keep on at D2D. They'll have a user forum no doubt, you'll probably get more help in there than via support tickets. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
if you get an error like this its due to missing parts of the program missing .dll or similar. or it is intended the file be burnt as an ISO disk for the game to be played from disk or mounted as a disk image using a virtual dvdrom like deamon tools in order to play, a legit company will send the the product code or cd key via e-mail. you have to check befire you download that your system is able to run the game and all hardware is compatable, if anything is sub compatable and you download its your fault and no refund can be made you have to prove that the system is capable of running the game to the provider of the download as well as the file doesnt work ie a screen shot of error (prt scrn next to F12 on k board go to paint and press control and v at the same time save to desktop and send as attachment in e-mail) then state as they supplied the game and moneys paid to them they are responsable for any despute regarding the sale, trade descriptions act, you'l inform the makers of the game that they are infact giving them a bad name as they are not refunding moneys when issues arise with theyre product no support no help etc.
also is it a zip file or rar file if its rar then use winrar to open not winzip as not all the file can be unrar'd using winzip.0
