C'mon, they are clearly not government web sites, most of them look like something a kid of 5 has put together.;)

I've seen some Government websites in the past that have looked worse. ;)
  • I booked a test on line at directbooking.org.uk which says it is the official site and yes the site does book your test but for £52 and booked the wrong type of test! the dvla advise that although they take bookings for this site, it is not official and they do not support the site - well dont take bookings from them then!! I have told Paypal who administer the funds the web site looks so official.

    No it doesn't.

It says "Book your Official DSA test quickly and securely now!" and in a tiny grey font "This site is not affiliated with the DSA".

The T&Cs make it very clear
6.2 The Charge for booking the Theory Test is the combined DSA / DVTA Theory Test fee (currently £31.00) and the Company's administration fee of £23.00.

These sites operate (sadly) inside the law and push it to the limits.

The problem is that people don't understand that you shouldn't search for a site. You find out the URL and type it in directly.

Why not? For the £23 pounds the agent may be adding value (I doubt that of course), but it's not up to the DVLA to stop free enterprise and competition.
