My plants seem to be healthy and yesterday they flowered for the first time so i`m guessing they are ok.
They are 11 weeks post sowing the seeds, how long will it be until i will get fruit?

Also i was given a tomato plant and it has really grown, it has flowering just starting too but i`m not sure what to do as i have read so much about taking some leaves and pinching out etc and im a bit confused. Here a pic so you can see and advise on what i should be doing

    hello

that tomato plant looks healthy,i think you should put a longer cane in place of that short one as its likely to grow 5ft+,also remember as the plant grows the stem will thicken so if you use those green plastic ties you will have to loosen them off otherwise they will strangle the stem,i just use soft string tied in aloose figure of 8 to allow for growth of the stem.
just keep pinching out the side shoots as they appear,i usually allow about 4 or 5 trussess before i pinch out the tip, some one else might differ, anyway thats what i do
    best of luck
    hope this helps

  • Looks good so far - I agree, it needs a bigger pot, and a taller cane, and the ties look as if they may be tight. Also, it looks like you have a sideshoot coming from the bottom that needs taking off. The sideshoots are different from a leaf, they tend to grow upwards at about 45 degrees from the plant stem, and come from the 'armpit' between the stem and leaves. They need taking off every time they appear!

Thanks that diagram certainly helps me know what is what :)
A bigger pot - will it be easy to repot at this size? So worried i`ll damage it.

I`ve removed the sideshoots and loosened the ties (just need a p[ot and stick lol!).
Do i need to remove the leaves below the truss? or is this when they fruit?

  • I would leave the leaves on for now at least - the plant needs them to photosynthesize! If you do take them off, it should be much later, though whether there is any need to is debatable - especially if you only have a couple of plants. I can see the logic if you have a lot of plents in a small space, (ie. letting air through, preventing mildew) but I leave mine on as I am not short on space.

Don't forgett to start feeding now around the edge of the pot not over the stem if you can. ;)

They look really well :) As you have flowers there then the tiny little toms should be developing soon :)
