seller account bill

hi guys im looking for advice on a bill!
basically i sold an item on ebay but the buyer returned the item and i gave them the money back,no messing etc.
then i got my bill which was nearly fifty pounds for selling items etc so i filed a seller account credit as the item was returned so i shouldnt have had to pay the final value fee, anyway the other ebayer refused to agree to not go through with the refund for me!
since then ive had my ebay account put on hold and had a debt recovery company iqor and theyre solicitor wanting the £45 selling fee plus a £30 recovery fee for themselves, i feel this is unfair as i didnt sell the item and the other ebay was being unhelpfull even though i gave them theyre money back straight away, maybe it was because he wasnt happy with the item but either way he kept his money but i feel i shouldnt have to pay these fees to ebay.
does anyone have any advice they could give, should i just pay it or should i refuse to pay it,ebay doesnt give me any other options to dispute the fees as the ther guy refused to agree with me?
any advice would be greatfully recieved, thanks glen

Firstly why did the buyer return the item?

I beieve that ebay advise that you always check that the buyer will agree to a mutual withdrawal before hand, as once you go down that route there is no way back should they not 'agree'.

Not sure there is much you can do except appeal to ebays better nature - do you have proof you refunded (i.e. was it via paypal?)

Unfortunately ebay don't have a better nature. I just wonderd how long ago it was as you can now get a refund of FVFs as soon as you agree to refund, but it can depend on why there is a refund,.

hi guys, cheers for quick replys, firstly the buyer wasnt happy as the item being a toolbox was supposedly more scratched than what i stated but how do you put in a description more than some scratches to the box,see pics! which i even put pics up of the scratches,so i agree'd to not go ahead with the sale when he came to collect it and he kept his cash but a few weeks later when i got my ebay bill i didnt realise the fvf would be so much so i put the dispute in and on the last day he had to reply he disagreed with me and ebay closed the dispute and left it as i owe them money with no other way of carrying the dispute on,just a debt recovery company now chasing me!

    Glen.

I am afraid that there is little you can do now in my mind. Although slightly contentious you probably should have gone down the route of a UID instead of a mutual withdrawal. At least that way he either pays or you get your fee's back. He bid and then didn't pay so technically a Non paying bidder - it's not like you refunded him.

appreciatte your advice, now think im just gonna pay this iqor and be done with it.
whats the best way of paying this debt recovery company, should i pay by card over the phone or send them a cheque as i dont like the idea of givng this company my card details as ive heard bad things about them?

mrs justjohn, you're very good at giving advice xxx

Many would disagree....including my hubby who doesn't call it advice - he calls it nagging ....LOL

OP - I think they would 'prefer' a card payment but at the end of the day it is upto you. If you are not comfortable with that method then send a cheque. At the end of the day they are trying to recover funds from you they should not put barriers up to stop you from paying.
