Self Assessment Online Password

My parents were planning on filling in their sef assessments online this year, but cannot remember their passwords.
It would help if they knew the criterio for the passwords (ie do they have to have a number and a letter, are they case sensitive,...)
Can anyone tell me this, hopefully it will help jog memories.
Also, does anyone know how many 'goes' you have to guess?
I know they could just request new passwords, but it would be easier if they can remember.
Thanks for any help,
Maddie
