Type of survey?

Hi All,
We have just had our offer accepted! Hurrah! :j
Our solicitor says that we should get a homebuyers survey rather than a building survey, as it is a maisonette and the surveyor won't be able to access the entire building. Does this sound right to you people?
It's a victorian property, so I'm keen to be on the safe side, but obvs don't want to pay for something that they won't be able to do anyway!
Thanks,
Pippa

Sorry to bump my own thread
Does anyone have any idea on this?
We will prob go with solicitor's advice, although my instinct is to get as thorough a survey as possible.0 -
Check the RICS website and/or some local surveyors' sites. They give guidelines about what circumstances suit each type of survey. Or speak to the surveyor giving you a quote - they'll be able to advise on what sort of access they need and what sort of survey is suitable.0
