sorry if this isnt the best place, but I've been lurking and mooching and generally see a lot of food related threads on the board!
Right bit of background................
I'm basically flat out broke this month due to sickness, so I'm going to be attempting to use the contents of cupboard and only buy in some veggies (im not a great fruit fan!).
Now heres the stupid part, I have a lot, and i mean A LOT! of store bought jars of sauces, like sweet and sour, korma sauce etc, that my darling family buy me when their own BOGOF's to keep me going. However they obviously dont give me any meat to go with them!
So due to absolute skintness I cant really afford meat!So my first highly stupid question is, could I use say korma jar of sauce with potatoes!?If so, how so? ITMS
And will I regret it? lol
I've also got some frozen sausages, from asda, do I have to defrost them or could I put them in a casserole dish, pour over some sauce and et voila in a few hours? My mum didnt give me the original packaging!
and any other bright ideas for what to do with tinned hotdogs, got 8 tins for £1 (another sweet family purchase), short of putting them in hot dog buns, Im stuck!

My flatmate has tinned hot dogs with tomato sauce and pasta and veg... I think that's a little odd but it might appeal to you!
Pretty sure you could do sweet and sour veg too... and veg curry with your sauces. Think things like potato, brocolli and carrot would work well...0 -
make a sausage casserole
chop up hot dog sausages, add a tomatoey pasta sauce, tin of baked beans and some chopped up spuds then cook. fry an onion and some garlic first if you have one, add herbs if you have them.
should be yummy.
as for curries...have u got lentils? make a veggie korma with veggies and lentils.

I must sound like a total retard.
I blame my age, I'm only 22 and my mum fed me processed chicken every day for 18 yrs! (and for that I blame my picky older sister!)
I'm just trying to find ways of using them without spending out on meat, since where I live it all seems v.expensive!Wealth is not measured by currency0 -
I'm not a big fan of lentils/chickpeas and the such like, again I blame my parents for detroying my wee taste buds as a nipper!
I've tried them but just cant seem to become accustomed.Wealth is not measured by currency0 -
We have hot dogs chopped up with pasta and a tomatoe based sauce with a little grated cheese on the top.
Also why not par boil you potatoes, chop them up with loads of veg and bung in the oven for an hour with the korma sauce. Vegetable curry!!!0 -
I throw my sausages in the Sc frozen, turn out great, but my DH prefers them browned off in frying pan before i Slow cook them.
Our best meals have come from times when we are skint and had to use up what we had, corned beef and tomato soup with frozen veg YummyyyyyyProud to be DEBT FREE AT LAST0 -
Baked beans with hot dogs chopped into them on a baked potato is lovely!! If you have any frozen chips (or make your own ones) you could do some rice and heat the curry sauce up and have a sort of chippy curry half and half. Also you could do a sausage casserole with the sausages - don't defrost them but brown them in a frying pan before you put them in the dish otherwise they look like fingers (according to my DD!!) and then put a can of cook in sauce over them and have it with potatoes or rice. Good luck!Jane

Have you got any of the 8p asda/tesco noddles in-when I'm short of ideas I knock together noodles with hotdogs, tomato ketchup/paste and anything else that springs to mind. The sausages can be grilled first from frozen to get a better texture then chop up (have the feel of meat) stick in the curry sauce with any veg you want, the potatoes can be made into wedges and have the sauce poured over, or if you have some veg (swed/carrot/cabbage) knock up a swede/colcannon mash and stick the sausges in the mash-bangers & mash. Thanks to MSE and all the moneysaving tips I can now work PT (instead of FT) to pay the bills and still have fun!!:beer:0
