Housing Benefit Help

my contract at work just recently ended at work so am currently unemployed & on JSA ( due to recive my first payment on wednesday).. anyway when i told my landlord about claiming HB he got a bit funny over the whole thing , so i cancelled this side of the claim (i'll manage for the month of july as have a little bit of money to tide me over for a month).
Do the HB people ring your landlord? Would i be able to set up the HB claim again without him knowing about it? I am hoping i will find a job fairly soon but just in case i think it might be an idea to get it up & running just in case....

Get straight back in and claim! Your landlord doesn't have to know about it as long as you have a tenancy agreement. It's unlikely they will contact him.
You are entitled to claim help, please do so.

There may well be a perfectly good reason as to why he got a bit funny, IIRC it has something to do with his insurance.

I agree with DX2, there may be reasons that your landlord was unhappy. If he has a buy-to-let mortgage, he might have something in his paperwork forbidding him to rent to tenants receiving HB/LHA. His insurance might also be invalid.
