How do you block people accessing the Internet on their mobile telephones?

You can't stop that, but if you catch them using it, they're still doing it during business hours. Whether or not it's misuse of assets is different, it's still during business hours :)

Or you make it clear that use of mobile phones (and mobile) internet is not acceptable during working hours - put it in your Employee Handbook (if you are an employer of course!)

I don't think its a good idea to keep Facebook during office time unless the project is some Facebook application development.

They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

They are illegal in the uk....

Web access varies depending on what your employees do really, either extreame is bad for morale or productivity, neither of which is desirable.

Im for having no blocks outside working hours and partial (sites like ebay, facebook, etc) during working hours.

Although franky its probably a bad idea letting your company know you even have a facebook account...

When I was in my old job the Internet was monitored. You could use "social" sites during breaks or if it was specifically for work. Other times was a big no-no!!

But since I was head of IT, Those rules were ermm... flexible...when it came to my usage... :D:D lol!

I did have fun, internally re-directing sites like "Facebook" and "MySpace" to to either google.com or the company website to annoy those trying to break the rules :D:D lol!! (Those that needed facebook or social sites for work were exempt from my re-directs)

I don't see a problem with that, there's always one rule for IT, one rule for employees. Like BOFH :D

At my work they monitor internet usage so you will get in trouble if you are on it during work time and it's not work related. Lunchtimes we can use it all we want. I am shocked at the amount of people with jobs who are on the internet most of the day during work - there bosses must be clueless there is always something to do.

It's just laziness, if it's there people use it. I used to use it, but I tended to get away with it with my bosses because I only really used it when I needed it, and for work purposes only.

I did use it every so often for personal use but only for a minute or so, so they weren't bothered.

Generally where I worked if you said you had nothing to do, you got the crap jobs and they give you all the rubbish work for making such a !!!!!! statement :D
