sainsbury loophole

Hi
I was shopping with my coupons today. One in particular is a very good one!

In the magazine sent out last week there were some vouchers at the back, one of the vouchers is for half price 'taste the difference vivaldi white potatoes - 2.5kg'. Well the potatoes are already half price - £1.23 at the till.

I handed in the coupon thinking "great lots of pots for 60odd pence" - but it was even better, the coupon came up as £1.24 off!! Which was half the original price.

Sainsbury paid ME 1p to 'buy' my pototoes - I shall enjoy them.

Do you mean the Sainsbury's store magazine? The one that costs £1.20 or something? Or is this something else?
  • Same thing happened to my girlfriend on Saturday.

Its not the magazine from the store, I had this sent to me free with nectar point coupons, sometime last week (not sure when as i was on holiday). The vouchers are on the last two pages, I just tore out those pages and popped the rest in the recycling. I got lucky this time. I hope some of you do too.

This is a normal thing at Sainburys. coupons/vouchers and special offer are set at a fixed price and are not based on the produce. A coupon that is half of is not base on the price of the produce in store, but is based on the RRP.

Because of this the best time to shop is near closing time where a lot of items are reduced for clearence. Look for products like BOGOF and two for £X deals.
An BOGOF item like £1 will give you back £1 (set price) when you buy two. when it is reduced for clearence, say 30p. The items will total 60p, with the BOGOF of £1 you end up getting a profit of 40p.
The secret is not mix it up with some normal products so the final price does not like suspicious or a negetive amount, or the manager will fix the mistake.

having worked for tesco it basically depends on the cashier if you actually get this or not. technically if this occurs a manager had to be informed to put the item through however being prone to the odd bargain myself i generally just said well done to the customer.
the best time to go is at the end of the day when stuff is being reduced and the cashiers have 1 eye on the clock and the managers are busying themselves with waste, usually a good combination to take advantage of this loophole.

Just wanted to say don't count on this. I work on sainsburys checkouts and if, for instance, chicken breasts are £.5.99 buy 1 get 1 free, then they're reduced to say £2.99, youre BOGOF offer will only take off the £2.99. If however they're buy 2 save £5.00, your offer will still take off £5. Or if they were 2 for £7 but reduced to £2.99 each you'll still get the £4.98 or whatever off. Confused you enough yet?
