I looked on their internet site for a globe. I found one- perfect. £8.99 + £2.99 P&P = £11.98 total price.

As I was going into town the next day, I thought I'd leave it- save the P&P and get it direct from the store.

In store the same globe was £14.99. I asked the manager about this, and she confirmed that the internet price was, indeed, £8.99 but refused to price match, saying that "no other shops do this".

I pointed out that yes, they do! She asked for examples, so I rattled off PC World, Dixons and Comet. She said they were part of the same chain, and that did not include WHSmiths, so therefore she wouldn't price match their own internet site...

What!? A shop that refuses to match its own price! What a ridiculous company.

Ill second that! Used to work in one of their stores! You would of thought that they would price match - after all its £6 and all the stock comes from teh same place - and a happy customer would have been better than an unhappy customer!

Exactly - well WHS sell the same stuff so why couldnt they just give them one for the price on the website? Bad customer service!

What is so ridiculous is that I would have probably bought a newspaper, few envelopes and a mars bar while i was in WHSmiths, so would, most likely, have spend more than the £11.98 anyway (if you include the P and P). But as it was, I walked out and gave my money to another shop!

Absolutely no idea. Since I was going into town the next day, it wasn't an option I looked at on the internet site.

If so, perhaps the manager could have told me that? Had she been in any way helpful then I probably would have parted with my cash. As it was, I went elsewhere.

Probably be cheaper in Staples or Woolies anyway. Bunch of idiots so of these shops, and they wonder why they loose trade.

Smiths do free delivery to store, and like most websites dont have the same prices as instore.

"We can deliver your order to more than 550 participating WHSmith stores across the UK, with Free P&P! Once your items have arrived in-store, you can collect them at your convenience"
