if what your selling for in a shop / carboot / Ebay jumble whatever and someone gambles on buying it and thinks that they can do a better job of presenting / selling it to turn a profit for their enterprise - whats your beef ? - youve sold at the ticket price that you stipulate - why begrudge someone putting in the time and more effort than you to make ( or maybe not make ) a couple of quid ??
Maybe you should read my post more carefully before giving us your "humble" opinion! Which part in particular is "Rubbish"? I have been doing this job for a couple of years and what I say is correct, I make no moral judgement on people buying and selling from charity shops for profit, just a set of observations!==============================================You can use your money to save timeorYou can use your time to save money0 -

Smelly underpants, old socks, stained knickers and laddered tights seem to be worth a small fortune on ebay, if another recent thread is to be believed."Love you Dave Brooker! x"

Hi, I buy quite a few items from bootfairs (not really with the intention of selling them on) mainly clothing and a few nic-nacs that take my fancy. When I get fed up with them I either ebay or bootfair them again. TBH I also find that clothes don't do that well on ebay, I've had more luck with costume jewellery and toys. Electronic/learning toys do well, eg Disney laptop, Bob the Builder speaking telephone. I once sold a My Little Pony I bought from a bootfair for £22 but that was a few years ago. I'm sure you can do some sort of search on ebay to find out what's selling well at the moment. hth xI must remember that "Money Saving" is not buying heavily discounted items that I do not need. :hello:0

I actually run the eBay "dept" for a small group of charity shops!
I dont think they ( Opinion ) make much profit as they arent that good at spotting good items. Sometimes they are a bit boastful after buying something "valuable" and tell us how stupid we are selling an item for £5 when they know they will get £100+ on eBay. When asked to dontate some of this excess profit they always refuse. Most of these "valuable" items I have seen them buy are NOT what they think they are and are worth no more than they paid for them. On one occasion someone actually asked for their money back when they tried to ebay one of these valuable finds (bought for £2) only to discover it was not valuable at all. Not surprisingly I refused!
The point of this is to say your not going to make much selling charity shop items on eBay these days ( Opinion ). eBay savy people work in almost all charity shops and are quite good at finding the "gems" before they go on sale and using the profit for the benefit of the charity for which it was donatated, not for personal profit. But there is still a real personal thrill in finding a hidden gem and then seeing it sell for hundreds of pounds (which happens a few times a year to me!)
I`m afraid you are wrong - 2 years , thats nothing ! I could still walk into my branch`s of Oxfam ( let alone the smaller outfits ) and know wether or not I could achieve a higher price for an item ( and do )
so you have a no refund set up in your shop ? - why was that ? was the price label removed ?
so your saying you send all the good stuff away and just keep the old tat ?As Martin says - please be nice - there is no such thing as a stupid question !0 -
I remember some years ago buying a v cheap job lot of bits and pieces from a local auction house (there was one of the bits I wanted for my gran who was collecting whatever it was at the time - the rest was of no interest ).
The auctioneer commented "what are you going to do with the rest of it"
"Dunno" I replied - sell it on ebay or if not sellable give to a charity shop
He then groaned "please dont do that as it will just end up back here".
Seriously, though dont worth too much effort looking in Charity shops - they ask fair (or slightly over imho) value on the whole and all the decent stuff is sent to ebay or auction (or dealers who buy before it is put out ).
My local auction house has end of line auctions - job lots of new clothes/small electrics - if I were thinking of finding stuff to sell I would start here rather than going round charity shops.
(My local shops are particularly dire - one of them has the same over priced teasets - that can be bought v cheaply at auction - for the last 4 years - it was even renovated recently and they put the same stuff in).0
