Which Supermarket has the lowest delivery charges?
Both my parents are 86, and increasingly unable to get to the shops.
They get meals from Wiltshire Farm Foods ( very good by the way, but dont deliver groceries etc)
Their spend will be low - probably around £20-£35 / per week (mostly nearer £20), and they very often forget things as well, making a second order possible!
Delivery charges obviously are a significant cost for small orders
Looked at the milkman, but his range is very very limited
Does any supermarket do free very cheap deliveries for OAPs?
Ideas, suggestions please!

You'd honestly think - given Tesco pretty much own the world - they could do something in combination with the small local stores and 'One Stops' that they own - given they already have a well oiled delivery machine.
If anyone has ever watched a senior citizen with crippling arthritis and two artificial hips do a weekly shop by public transport with a shopping trolly, they'd probably agree that charging over 65's to deliver food is shameful.0 -
I don't know that any offer what you're looking for.
Tesco has a range of delivery prices, so a weekend slot would be £5-6, but something like a Tuesday or Wednesday £3-4.0 -
My parents have a lady from Age Concern who comes once a week to take them shopping. If they're well enough, they'll also stop off to pay the papers, go to the chemists, etc. If they're not well, she does the shopping for them.
They have to pay £10 but, for that, they get someone visiting who is really friendly and who sorts out any other minor problems they have. She has got used to their shopping tastes and makes sure they don't forget things and will suggest other things they might like to try.
It's also a morning when I know they have someone else there who is looking out for them.
They use money from their Attendance Allowance and I'd far rather the money went to Age Concern than to Tescos!0 -
Iceland do free delivery (within 10 miles of the store) if you spend more than £25 on a single visit. Someone does have to go to the store and they don't sell fresh fruit and veg. - most other things though.0

Is there an independant local grocer / corner shop who could deliver?
Few & far between I know, but the one in my late mother's village did just this. No idea of likely costs thoughEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
We have a Somerfield in our town that does home delivery freem of charge providing £25 or more is spent.......usually manage to meet that amount.
Mind you, store is currently changing over to co-op so can only hope they'll keep it up. It's a boon it really is.
I've seen older people sitting on the bench inside the store waiting for a taxi to pick them and their groceries up and take them home.........in town charge here is around £3.50 so suppose thats not bad for weekly shop.I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

In Edinburgh there is an organization called the Edinburgh Shopping and Home Assist Service, that will do a shopping delivery for a fiver, they will go to the shops you ask them to use, put away for £1 more and do cleaning and odd jobs around the house. Might be something similar in your area. I heard about it through the OT that came and assessed me, when I had to start using a wheelchairLindsayO
