I can only print from my laptop when it's connected to the printer, sometimes I work in the lounge on my laptop but can't print from there.
My printer has an ethernet cable linking it to the router but it isn't showing on the network.
I used to print wirelessly through the netgear router but have recently changed to BT and obviously havn't set it up right,
Can anyone help please?

Maybe the printer has a fixed ip address and the netgear router used a different range then the bt one, you need to check the network settings on the printer, can you connect to it via a USB cable and check or you could print out a status/settings page from the printer.0

I can access the printer settings but am not really sure what I'm looking for,
In the Brother MFC remote setup program under LAN > TCP/IP there is a load of info including IP address, Subnet Mask, Gateway etc
what do I need to do please?0 -
Need to know the IP address range of your current router (or hub if that is what you have).
Click on Start, select Run and type cmd and press enter.
In the newly opened command window, type ipconfig /all and press enter.
Scroll through the list until you see an entry called DHCP Server and post that IP addy back here.Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0 -
Thanks guys for your advice I have actually sorted it now, diable was right it was a static IP so I changed the boot setting to auto and now it's showing on the network.

That's actually not a good idea. One day your printer might get another IP and then you need to set it up again. Devices which get accessed from other computers (servers, printers, ...) should be set up with a static IP. If the static IP is within your IP range it should show in your network the same way. Thanks guys for your advice I have actually sorted it now, diable was right it was a static IP so I changed the boot setting to auto and now it's showing on the network.

oh so what should I do now then?
was the old static IP from the old netgear router and if so will the newly assigned IP become the new static IP if I just select static in the boot menu again? (hope that made sense)0 -
give it the IP, subnet etc it currently has been automatically assigned, but make it static. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0
