Ee By Gum.....Some mobile companies could really do with a slap.
Just recently bought a mobile from Mobile7, the contract is with Orange. It's one of those free for 12 months by redemption things. These things are difficult enough in themselves without the phone company being pains.
When I bought the phone I set up a Direct Debit, just like I have always done. So today Orange cut me off and I got a letter telling me my bill was in arrears.
Now I've had several phones, as has OH and DS (I deal with them all) and I have never defaulted and I have always bought the same way, online and set-up direct debit.
Called Orange and well it seems that when the direct debit was set up the phone wasn't registered. So their system automatically deleted the direct debit. This system does not then automatically issue any type of letter telling you your direct debit has been cancelled, That would be too easy.
Apparently I should have telepathically known that it had been cancelled. I also should have been aware that the bill, which is almost exactly the same as all my other (directed debited up bills) was shouting loud and clear that I did not have a direct debit and that I should be paying this bill straight away.
Call centre staff are obviously trained to be OBTUSE!!
The other thing that made me want to throw the offending phone out the window is the contract starting before the bill thing , which doesn't normally bother me, but on this occassion I ended up with a 9 minute £2.97 call,
Bill starts on the 5th, got phone on 4th made 30 minutes of calls.
Bill stated that line rental paid from 3rd to 4th, (new month starting on 5th), Allotted 20 free minutes for those 2 days (300 free per month) therefore the extra 9minutes or so have been charged for. So it cost me in the end £6.00 for 1 evening with the phone.
Rant ended.
