What Public service wastages do you see?

I'm sure they're are lots of us who work in the public sector or have dealings with them as see the huge amount of wastage they cause:eek:

We received brand new t-shirt at work, however they argued that it wasn't the right shade of green So decided on spending another £3k to replace all the t-shirt with the right shade of green.

Then I'm also leading a ride on behalf of Tfl, and the cost of running 4 rides a week for 4 weeks is £2,000 and that’s just for staffing the 16 rides:eek: I just wonder how many people will actually sign up for these rides...................
"No likey no need to hit thanks button!":p
However its always nice to be thanked if you feel mine and other people's posts here offer great advice:D So hit the button if you likey:rotfl:

Not an example of waste, but maybe the waste is elsewhere.

I used to work for a PCT and the bomb plan was due to be rewritten. The management deamed it too menial for them, so the receptionist did it!

    Ermmm.

I have already submitted 10 suggestions to the online Civil Sector "remove waste".

Worst things I see, manhour wasting mandatory data protection training, equality and diversity training, as well as a back office structure up in main building that needs a bl00dy axe taking to it.

All CS bodies need to axe glossy mags which no-one can be arsed reading anyhow. Sure that would save a few pennies. They can still publish it, but in PDF format.

I remember in the late 70s when loads of London boroughs declared themselves "Nuclear Free Zones" and put up very expensive signage all over the place. Think they were all labour.

Oh, second the glossy magazine thing. We get endless ones from local council, police etc. Straight in the bin. Waste of money and paper.

Agree - online only for such things.

Yes, but it was a very successful policy. Welwyn Hatfield Council also declared itself a 'Nuclear Free Zone'. Not a single nuclear power station, re-processing facility or missile site was built there. I particularly liked the 'Nuclear Free' dustcarts they favoured. Unfortunately, I couldn't put my used uranium and whatnot in the bin as this would have breached the policy. It all collapsed when they paid Blunkett's bankrupt South Yorkshire Socialist Republic £30,000 for a load of signs and never got them!

i believe the Russians did promise Lambeth Council that if they were going to bomb London, they would be very careful to avoid the borough and drop them on wandsworth instead.

You have your wish Carol - instead of paying me to make existing things happen more efficiently and improve the figures that decisions are based on you will soon be paying me (admittedly a fair bit less) to sit at home. However the savings from doing things more efficiently and making decision based on reliable figures will also not materialise which will cost you much more overall - however at least there will be one fewer consultant.

(As an aside given my charge out rate with a small company and the flexibility of not paying me when not needed or paying me redundancy etc, unlike most big company consultants I was not actually much more expensive than using in house staff)

My wife works in LG and the town where the central office is all workers have free gym access to any LG owned gyms.
It is open to all workers but only people living/working in the central office town can really take advantage.

I believe that is now being scrapped.
