Hi there,
I am looking to buy my wife a macbook and have found this.
qtechworld.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&category_id=5&product_id=1923&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1
for only £685!
Now I am a big believer in if things are too good to be true, they usually arn't!
Unfort I am no expert on macs, does anyone have any ideas, why this is so cheap?
Many thanks
Clyde

Seriously avoid the plastic macbook. They have a lot of issues. Go into PC World and take a look at them. Pick up the Macbook and you'll feel it flexing. Pick up the Macbook Pro and it won't. Also take a look at the lid on the Macbook - the plastic scratches easily.0

I had a plastic macbook (upgraded to a MBP after having the MB for 4 years and selling it on for a good price) and my employer has purchased several plastic macbooks, Hammyman, and we've not seen any quality issues.
Clearly a plastic laptop is not as solid as one whose case is made of large metal pieces, but honestly it seems fairly robust to me, both as a personal user and as someone who has to support them professionally.
Clyde,
Have you looked at Apple's website - they have some cheaper ones under the various educational discounts if you or someone in your family qualifies, and you can also spot some bargains in their refurb store - I know people can be a bit leery of "refurb" sections but Apple's refurb gear is generally of very good quality. If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -

Well there has been a well known and well publicised one of the edge of the lid cracking off where it is in contact with the recessed bit below the trackpad.

That's the old Macbook, not the Unibody one. Having said that, I don't like the Unibody Macbook, as you say, it does scratch easily.0 -

You're right, I remember people talking about that problem.
Haven't seen it myself though and at the end of the day I can only speak about my experiences with it.If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0
