Bus cards being changed to swipe cards

...uh, well, this is happening in Co Durham, cards must be changed, swipes in from September. This might be happening in your area, ask bus drivers in case.:):)

In Edinburgh, when we first got the cards we just had to show them to the driver, now we have to use the card reader (card lies on top to be read), makes it a bit harder for me when I was in crutches, not sure how I'll cope in a wheelchairLindsayO

same here in Lanarkshire,,although I never knew it was gettin read,,I just thought the driver was looking at it

I think it must be a 'Scotland wide' policy. I remember reading a report about a few private bus companies getting fined for falsifying their concessionary passenger numbers, so I'm guessing this was the reason for changing it.
The first time I had to use the reader was on a City Link bus home coming from Inverness, I didnae know what the guy was asking me to do with the card. He ended up taking the card from me and sitting it on the reader himself. :rotfl:
The next time I encountered the reader was on a First Bus in Glasgow and I've since experienced on a few different private buses in and around Glasgow/Lanarkshire.
I rarely use the bus, I use my card regularly though on the Subway, so I forget each time and go through the same rigmarole [showing it to the driver, getting told to use the reader] every time. One of these days I'll remember...

in london the freedom passes have to be held on the scanner. in fact, if anything it is easier. you just have to 'touch' it rather than open it to show your picture.0
