Prices start from £10K and there are plots near us.
On the site they mention 're-zoning' which is....
'...Re-zoning or allocation is simply a term used to describe what happens when a Local Authority decides to change the use of a particular area of land. From our point of view we are looking to sponsor a site to be re-zoned (or allocated) for residential use...'
I will keep you posted on my 'progress'. Maybe someting comes out of it, maybe not, we shall see0 -
Ecology building society are good if you are interested in buiklding an eco friendly house, which in this day and age and current heating costs etc, IMO is the way to go!
Would love to self build, but plots around here are so expensive, to me it would only be worth the hassle, if I could have a dream plot, in a beautiful Location, but I cant afford that! A building plot went for about 600k around here! You can get a tiny one on an estate for 150k, but to me living in a caravan camping for a couple of years to be squezed into an estate, isnt worth it!Pawpurrs x0 -

These type of sites/sales are a scam. They buy agricultural land for about 2-3K per acre from farmers and land owners and then sell it on to "investors". These investors are sold on the fact that it may one day become building land, which in all likelyhood it won't otherwise the farmer/land owner would have not sold it for that amount.
You will lose your money here. However, there are some reputable sites (i found this one googling for 2 seconds http://www.uklanddirectory.org.uk) and some of the build magazines have land advertised directory and auction listings too.
In most parts of the country i think you won't find REAL building land for less than 100k per half acre.0 -
I have subscribed to Buildstore's Plotsearch service. Started off with an annual subscription for about £15 then took advantage of the lifetime offer for £40.
As finding the right piece of land is one of the most important aspects of a self build and can take several years to do, I think it is a good investment (but each to their own).0 -

Hi Llyllyll
Have you seen /viewed any plots you liked yet?
Thank you.0 -

Not yet. Most of the plots in the areas I am currently looking at (within price range) are about the size of postage stamps. I may have to widen my searches or even reconsider my areas completely
.
If I'm going to have a detached house built it has to detached in the old-fashioned sense of the word. What I mean is that I don't expect to have a country estate for my money, but neither do I want to live about 6" from my neighbour (although technically detached), as a lot of bid developer new builds are.0 -

I am so with you on this one. A little Georgian mansion with a nice view would do for me.
I am sure some people would say that it is highly unlikely and unrealistic, but...
has anybody heard about unclaimed properties and land? I saw a few sites selling info on how to go about claiming it all for free. :rolleyes:0 -
Heard about it and as usual if it sounds too good to be true it usually is. Search Google for 'adverse possession' and you'll find loads of sites/news archives.0
