DDR memory voltage

Looking to upgrade the memory and have seen Igb @ £85 or £58 and 512 @£47 or £30. The onle spec difference I can see is the voltage, the expensive ones operate at 2.6v the cheaper ones at 3.3v can this be a problem?
W/XP Shuttle AK32A mob don't play anything more than flight sims.Am running 512 SDR at the moment. Not sure if I could included the suppliers name so have left it out. Thanks any help

I could be completely wrong here but I thought SDR ran @ 3.3v and DDR ran at 2.7v.

Can you post the links to the webpages you are looking at for your RAM?

Are your current RAM's 184 or 168 Pin?

    Here is your motherboard

    http://global.shuttle.com/Product/MotherBoard/mbd_Spec.asp?M_id=22

It can take 2 x DDR and 2x SDR.

    Taken from here http://pcworld.about.com/news/Apr072004id115574.htm

'You can't mix SDRAM and DDR modules, though. They operate at different voltages and communicate with the system in different ways. Motherboards are designed for either one or the other'

I'd just get another stick of SDRAM (3.3v)
  • T4i,
thanks for your help. Play.com are offering the Igb @£58
    Crucial @£85
At the moment I have both the sdr slots filled with 256x2 but if I remove them and use the DDR slots I can go up to 2gb
Bit concerned about the heat generated
    This spec copied from play.com
    1GB
    Compatible with PC3200 DDR systems
    184pin for desktops
    Lifetime Warranty
    CL2.5
    3.3V Unbuffered
Like you thought they operated at 2.6

just read the PC world article thanks for that. The information in that creates another problem as I have a mobile rack (slide in trays one with XP the other with W98 SE) I note that 98SE will only operate up to 512.

Buy DDR and sell your SDRAM on ebay. Won't get alot for them but you may see some sort of return.

As for 98SE, there is a workaround for more than 512MB installed..

Firstly you need to deciede on SDRAM or DDR.

You have alreay filled your SDRAM slots? So you can either replace ur current SDRAM with larger capacity ones OR scrap your current SDRAM and buy some DDR.

You cant mix SDRAM and DDR.
