Teaching assistant letdown

I am fuming mad!

Was interviewed for a job with others and the internal candidate got it, again and again and again...

This person did not know the actual job as well as me or the other candidate. Was not as experienced. Could not comment on spreadsheet data. Did not have a proven record in this field. And guess who did the lesson obs... Yes you've guessed it... One of their mates...

What a bloody waste of people's time.

If someone is ear-marked for the job; just bloody give it to them! And stop wasting my time and effort!

    Sorry :(

It is incredibly frustrating isn't it? Simetimes I wish they were allowed to just fill the post internally without advertising and save a bunch of strangers the effort of writing a really good application, swotting for an interview, maybe buying a suit, taking a day's holiday etc. all for no good reason.

Could you possibly volunteer or help out in a school? Then you could be the insider.

The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

as one of the posters mentioned either vlounteer or temp with an agency and you will be an insider and 90% chances of u getting the job!!I was not aware of this thing until I started working in a school 7 mnths ago!!!!!the post I originally applied for went to the lady aleardy working as a temp....but was lucky I got offeres teaching assistant job with both hands as was made redundant a year ago and I just wanted to get back into the job market.and since then have seen many occasions where insiders got jobs advertised!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i have know got the experience of working with children(which cropped up bfre in inerviews) and I can move to other schools whenevr an opp arises!

sorry for the rant...just to show u that what you are fuming abt really does happen a lot and the way to beat it is become an insider!!!!!!!aslo sign up with an agency and wrk through them

Because we all picked each others brains, had the same tasks and discussed our experiences.

I have got a permenant post, but wanted and deserved the level 4 job at another school that I've been doing at my school for the past two years. The job was advertised in a specialist curriculum area.

Thanks for the reply... Teaching assistant jobs suck at the moment, especially after job evaluation. It's demoralising, what do the kids get out of it...

these days lots of schools are taking on ppl as TA's with no quals!!!Like I said I have now got the experience of working with children, but already have got higher quals(mostly worked with over 19 before) so now I am thinking of applying for cover supervisors job which has a higher salary!

In my experience that isn't the case at all. In the past, dinner ladies and cleaners were taken on as TAs but it's rare these days for someone to be taken on without even an NVQ.

Level 1 TA requires no TA qualifications as it is entry level. But most schools will insist on having some experience working with children. I am trying to get a job as a TA, I have voluntary experience working with children and a non teaching degree.

That's been my experience. I know a few people who started a level 1 TA job with no quals but experience of childcare. The people with the NVQ get the level 2 jobs.
