Hi I have been unemployed for two months and have been entitled to £1.12 income support and council tax. In August they have decided I am to be entitled to carers allowance from the 5th they will stop income support therfore I am no longer entitled to free perscriptions and stuff but also no council tax. I have done the 5 minuet check and it suggests I would be entitled to both (IS and CA) along with council tax and help with my mortgage. Can anyone tell me how I would go about finding this out.

Thanks for any help I have looked after my husband for over 10 years but I have always worked too, I am very green at all of this.

regards

  • if you claim CA whilst claiming IS then you get the CA premium(around £32 a week)added to your IS
You say you work how much a week do you earn?

You may have a entitlement to IS with a carers premium but as you work this may cancel it out.

Ginger I notice you have chaged your original post, as you no longer work and you get carers allowance you are entitled to a carers premium on Income support. You need to phone your local benefit centre and make sure they know that you are claiming carers allowance and tell them that you should also be eligible for the carers premium on Income support, which you are not getting at the moment.
