On returning from a weeks holiday I switched on my laptop ( Acer aspire 5920) to find it hadn't been shutdown before we went (pesky kids!), it was left unplugged and as the battery is knackered when it resumed windows wouldn't work properly. The disc game they had been playing had stopped working and I have manged to uninstall it, but the rest of the time I am now being told there has been an error and it turns its self off and can either bring up the bsod or it comes up with windows recovery error and then checks disc.
I can't get onto the internet ( am on hubby's laptop now) and everything on the desktop just freezes.
Please can you help? I don't mind having to restore it to original state if neccessary but really would like to have my laptop back and working properly,
Thank you.

Could you post the bsod error code?0

To keep it on the screen in Vista (don't know about other OS) right click on Computer, then Properties, System Protection, Advanced, the settings box in Start up and Recovery. There you will see a tick next to Automatically Restart under System failure. Un-tick that & write down the BSOD code.0

I would leave it switched off and on charge overnight before doing anything or attempting to fix anything.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

jclegg The only code that I can see on the bsod is this
ox000000f4 ox00000003 ox86673ad8 ox86673c24 ox82078710
Hope this is what you mean?
Thanks spank for advice on how to keep on screen as i didn't know that.
DVardysShadow the battery has been knackered for a long time now so I just use it plugged into the mains as it goes off almost immediately if not plugged in.0 -
Here is Microsoft's page on the error:

Seems like a hard drive problem. Do you have the install disks for the laptop?0 -
jclegg, i can't find any discs that might have come with the laptop, can the problem still be fixed?0
