I work for the police as a civilian worker which requires me to work shifts including weekends.
In a situation such as this if I had been due to work this weekend then was due day off on the Monday and my next working day was Tuesday. If fit I would be expected to return to work on the Tuesday although I would ring my boss on the Monday to let them know when I was returning to work.

You need to let them know asap when you are going to be back at work so that they don't pay someone else to cover your shift.

They shouldn't expect you to "payback" sick time by giving up your day off and if they do I would query that as it doesn't sound right

    Hope this helps

It is confusing! My doctor didn't give me a certificate. So my next rota'd day would be tuesday. I guess that is when I will go back :-)

So he said self cert yourself then? The have three days of and go on the next working day.
The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

    Surely -

If you were due to work over the weekend and couldn't, those were sick days. Complete whatever form you would normally do for being off sick for less time than requires a doctor's note.

If you weren't scheduled to go into work tomorrow (Monday), they won't be expecting you. You should be surplus to requirements! Don't go in when you are not required to do so by the schedule.

Go in on Tuesday (given that is your next working day and you will have had three days off work).

Thanks everyone. I think that works out right. I will phone tomorrow and at least let them know I will be back on Tuesday.
