I have a shrub come tree in the garden which I usually prune to prevent it getting too big but his year I'm very late in doing so.
It has purple leaves, white flowers in the spring and now as it hasn't been pruned has these small plum like fruits on it.
Does anybody know if they are edible or ornamental? I'll try and post a picture. I've tried google images but haven't been able to quite identify it.

Sounds like could be either Prunus cerasifera 'Nigra' - a purple leafed ornamental plum.
If this is the case then yes the fruits (NOT THE SEEDS) are edible.
Please make sure it is definitely this though before eating and note that the seeds are toxic!
or
Prunus x cistena - purple leafed sand Cherry
Eating is as above - though very bitter.Greyer by the minute - Older by the hour - Wiser by the day0 -
