Please move if not on the correct board, couldn't think where best to put it.
Bought 3 different lavenders yesterday, but would like to try and divide them into smaller plants, hence more garden for less money! Don't know if it's feasible or how to go about it. Have googled but came up with nothing.
Any advice greatly appreciated,
soba

Never tried it myself... I used to take cuttings and propegate from these... I used proper hormone for the purpose but found I have decent results too with some non-flowering shoots cut about 10-14cm long and stripping the bottom few cm of leaves and sticking in a glass of water and placing in the windowsill... after a few weeks with any luck you should start seeing roots
plant into small pots and look after them till the spring

I'd only try and divice plants if they seem easy to "split"... each plant needs a healthy bunch of roots for itself and often the lavenders seem to have one main "trunk" rather than being multiple plants...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Thanks tine, maybe that's the best way to go. Perhaps best to keep them in pots until spring, and try to do some cuttings now, then plant them all out at the same time. I've got some spring bulbs to put in, so we won't have a completely bare patch of soil!0

I'd say get cuttings now and keep them indoors in the windows shoudl give you a decent chance of some plants to put out next spring
As they will be small then make sure the last frost is finished if you can
The "parent" plants can still go out now to make it look less bare if you want
Actually you've reminded me to go do it too and the same with my rosemarySpring bulbs... drat knew there was another job that needed doing... hmm will wait till OH and next door finish re-doing the front I think
they are ripping up the turf and putting down gravel as the grass refuses to grow... grrrrr
