Hb & jsa

Hey guys, quick question for ya.

Person get fired from job therefore cannot claim JSA for x amount of time. Would this also apply to housing benefit for a council house?

Also, then throw in another person into the equation, so one person in house working but one not, how would this affect it?

AFAIK the council said that they should have informed them they were not eligible for JSA when applying for HB.

Cheers

They could still claim LHA/ HB on the basis of being on a low income.

What is their relationship to the other person in the house?
    Gone ... or have I?

You can claim JSA if you have been fired - and you should - a sanction may be imposed somewhere down the line but you get paid until decision made.

If you wait, there is still the chance you will be sanctioned down the line somewhere.

    Hi DMG

Thank you very much for your quick reply.
It's two sisters living in the flat together and they are just splitting and the bills and stuff 50/50.
The sister who was still working was only part time on pretty dire wages IMO. Tried to advise them but not sure if I am giving out the right info.
TBH it has gone quite far in the process now with the council wanting her to attend a meeting about the money they owe due to the HB which they said was wrongly claimed.

Hi there, this situation goes back about a year or so when she got fired, and I don't know if the sanction kicked in right away or whatever.

I'm assuming here, that one of the tenants lost their job, claimed JSA and HB, and was initially awarded both.

Then the JSA got stopped / suspended / sanctioned and the tenant did not tell the HB dept that this had happened?

If they had told HB, the HB dept would have sent a form to claim "Standard" HB, but as they did not know aboutthe change this could not happen.
It will probably be determined as an overpayment. This is why people should inform changes in their circumstances promptly.

EDIT: You are perfectly correct. Thank you very much.
