Tax credit error, who's to blame?

Just a quickie here. I've just had notification from HMRC that we've been overpaid on tax credits. I have been scrupulous about telling them about changes to our circumstances immediately as I didn't want this to happen, I knew it was going to stop (it has) but I somehow expected them to get it right (silly me!)
Anyway, I phoned them and the explanation was that on the declaration they sent me it didn't state the estimated earnings I actually told them.
So, the question is, whose fault is that? Theirs for not using the figures I told them, or mine for not noticing the figures from them were wrong. I say theirs, but is it going to be my word against theirs, when their voice is a lot bigger and louder!!!
Any help/advice much appreciated

Its yours. Its your responsibility to check that each award notice youre sent is correct. There's zero chance of successfully disputing this.0

Ok, thanks for that. It's not a huge big deal, it's only £600 ish, but I'm not really sure why. I have yet to find the paperwork as I filed it thinking we wouldn't need it, then we moved house so it's in a box somewhere. When I can find it, I'll check the figures properly and check all the regs etc. I've disputed it anyway, but if I have to pay it back so be it. It's just annoying when I've tried to do it correctly and then just by not looking at the paperwork as closely as maybe I should have, this happens, just unwanted hassle!0
