  • Megabus - An intercity bus service that costs just £1+ for a seat. Great for travelling home at the end of term https://www.megabus.com

Ugh. Megabus. 12 hour trip from Aberdeen to London, then 1h30 on train down to my parents... and these days it's hard to get it for less than £12 single, then add to that the £10 it is from London to my hometown (cause I don't get YP discount from London at the time the bus gets in...), that's £34 return, and 15 hours door-door each way. If you book well in advance on the trains, it can be quite economical. GNER from Aberdeen to my hometown, including transfer on the tube across London is £58.40 return. For the sheer comfort factor and the fact that you cut 6 hours off the journey I think the £24 extra is worth it.

That having been said, August was mental for me, got 3 returns in the space of 3 weeks up to Aberdeen on megabus for £2.00 a piece. That's maybe why I don't like megabus any more... :rotfl: plus their OVERBOOKING! It's OK from the termini, but I saw about 20 people get turned away at Dundee once and have to wait for stagecoach to send up another bus to take them down to London. Pitiful...

Well... that twopennerth turned out to be a bit more than I planned :p but still, if you're not so far away as Castle Greyskull then it's possibly better by megabus.

Ah for the old days of £69 First class returns on GNER... now those were the days (conveniently subsidised by the folks ;);))
    MSE: It's grrrrrrrrrrrrrreat!
