I am taking my laptop back to the shop as it's rubbish!

Any quick tools to delete everything?

Thanks

Good luck with taking it back just because you don't like it. You have no right to a refund or a replacement. To completely wipe it, you need to use one of the many tools available on the internet to securely delete everything as merely deleting the information or formatting the drive doesn't get rid of the data. Just remember though that if you wipe the recovery partition as well, you're even less likely to get a refund because if it doesn't come with restore discs, they've no way of putting it back to the state it left the factory.

It;s not that I don't like it - the battery is overheating (it's only 2 weeks old) - part of the screen doesn't work and the fan is constantly running............

I'd be inclined to just use the recovery procedure to take it back to manufacturer default state. It won't securely remove all your data though and if anyone should try hard enough some would probably be recoverable. How much that matters is how much confidential and/or illegal data you stored and how bored and competent you think the store staff may be.

Eraser is good to erase personal data, such as passwords, letters, etc.

Have you tried to get the supplier to rectify the problem or are you looking to rely on a 14-day return-it-if-you-don't-like-it deal?
My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com

    I ran eraser thank you.

It has been sent back to the manufacturers (from Argos)!

The fan was really making a noise!

We'll have to wait and see if they fix it! Also the screen sometimes only showed half screen (the other half just blacked out).

I didn't put too much on - lots of piccies etc, bank software etc etc

Thanks for all the advice as usual!!!
