The "twice as long as the holiday" notice is taken from the 1998 Working Time Regulations.
BTW it is often helpful to give rather longer notice as that allows for work schedules to be worked out to accommodate requests!0 -
If I was your friend I would, at the begining of the holiday year go in & state "I would like to spread my holiday this year, can we work out when would be OK to take it" & get it signed off then. As a previous poster stated this is throwing the ball back to the employer but telling them that you won't take it at the end of the year.0
