Redundancy Planning

Options
I have just been told by my boss and HR that they are planning to make job cuts and my job is likley to be affected as it is no longer required . HR asked me if i can email them with any ideas i may have before we have another meeting. Any ideas what i can suggest? Since being told i have been very stressed due to the financial worries.

Have you looked at the role you do, can you see any otherway that you can save money and keep your job? Are there any other jobs in the company that you could do that have a space?
The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

The idea is that you look at what you could realistically do to keep your job. Would you be willing to work part time or take a pay cut? Is there any other work in the company that you would be willing/ capable of doing?
  • On my first meeting i did ask the question if there were any other jobs that i could do instead but i was told that due to company trying to cut costs they have no put on a recruitment freeze. I will suggest pay cuts and reducing hours ect and see where this takes me and hope for the best.

    Thank you guys

Apart from any permanent redeployment opportunities, I insisted my company give me a list of all the posts currently filled by temp staff and fixed term contract staff who'd been employed for less than 12 months.

Frankly, they were in the way of additional redeployment opps for me, a permanent member of staff, as I might have wanted to undertake one of those roles to extend my employment a bit longer. As it happened I didn't fancy any of the jobs, but it was in our company's Redundancy Policy that they would "employ less temps", yet it was left to me to point it out and insist they comply.
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.
  • All my ideas being flexible were dismissed and I have my final meeting on monday where i will be dismissed for redundancy. I wanted to ask if i have a valid case for appealing as i did a standalone role as the other 2 colleagues left the company earlier this year and i have not been put through a selection criteria.

If I am reading this correctly, there are no selection criteria required since it appears to be a choice of one job. Or am I misunderstanding? Selection criteria only apply if there are more people doing a job, and choice needs to be made between them.
  • Thanks for clearing that up. Seems like it was planned by manager months ago as it was known for sometime that eventually my role would no longer be needed in the company. Life goes on then...

    Thanks
