1p an hour heaters?

My father in law has heaters in his house that he claims cost him 1p an hour to run. Is he deluded or can you actually buy panel heaters that don't cost very much to run? If so would you be able to give me a helping hand what to look for to find them?

Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you :)

A penny an hour means about 100w of power. Might as well leave a hundred watt light bulb on.

Sadly with electric heating what you get out is directly proportional to what you put in.

    Damn the laws of physics!!

Electricity for heating is very expensive.
1p a hour is not possible.

a 1 bar fire will cost about 11p per hour to run.
    ie 1 kw.

for a penny per hour you may as well light a few candles.
    Get some gorm.

If you google you can find heaters that claim to cost 1p to run................. I'd rather trust the maths of the MSE'ers though :)

Guys, a better invention 100w light bulb oven
    http://gizmodo.com/5347283/easy-baking-with-a-100+watt-light-bulb-takes-me-back.

So all the dissipated heat of this oven will also heat the room too. By then end of the year you could own a baking business which generates free heat and may provides a multi-million income too!

Errm the clue is in the quote: 'with a running cost of from only 1p per hour'

Given that it is 400W, if its on continuously it will cost about 5-6p an hour to run. It all depends on the temperature of the room its trying to heat!
For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.

I'm looking at electric stove fires at the moment - and the 1p an hour bit comes in from the effect of the fire only (i.e. the lightbulb inside) - if you want heat as well, it'll cost you extra!
