Netbook will only connect to the internet via one network - Advice would be amazing!

Hi,

I have the ASUS EeePC 1005HA; got it last year in September. For a few months, it worked perfectly, connecting online at campus, home, and anywhere else there was wifi. In January, however, a couple of unrelated things happened: I installed windows 7, and our netbook at home stopped working and had to be re-configured.

After this, though I could still "connect" to the home network, I didn't have internet access at home, and couldn't even send anything via the home network. Everything still worked fine when using the uni wifi, so I figured it was a problem with my house internet and wasn't too fussed.

Recently, however, I have moved to a new flat and when setting up the internet have found the same problem - the netbook sees that the wireless network is there, even claiming to have internet access, but both chrome and ie open to "page unavailable". (Another netbook that I borrowed works perfectly on this new wifi.) Even connecting to the network via an ethernet cable doesn't work. I also tried hooking up to an unsecured wireless network the netbook was picking up, purely in the interests of testing, but again the netbook saw it was there, showed as being connected and having internet access, but not actually being able to get online. I went back to uni to see and it does still work there via the VPN software.

I didn't know whom to ask, so thought I'd turn to the geniuses of the mse tech forum! Thank you!

It may be something to do with Windows 7 and the VPN software you mention. Is Windows 7 trying to connect to the internet through the VPN software when you are not at uni?

Is there a way to disable to VPN software?

Go to Internet Explorer. Click Tools, Options, Connections and see what is there.

Thank you so much - that worked perfectly :) Just had to untick the box for the proxy server, and voila, internet :D
