Daughter has no telephone line but does have a mobile. She uses the internet ( at my house) only for email & occ surfing. She wants to use facebook, but again, not too often. I have seen the datawind Ubisurfer advertised & wondered if it would suit her needs. I'm a techie phobic & dont how how this thing works. It says it has a built in sim card with 1 yr unlimited free internet use, but then in the small print says 30 hrs per month. 30hrs would be fine, but what happens after the yr is up? Have I understood it correctly, the device works via a sim card, although it has built in WiFi, but you cant take the sim card out? Is this set up similar to the free laptop offers because I think they work with a sim card dont they?

You might find it a bit slow... In addition the Internet access via SIM card is GPRS. Which is around the speed of the of the old style dial up Internet. Very slow.
More useful would be a 'proper' Netbook in conjunction with a Vodafone 1 GB USB modem. Approx cost £180.0 -
The browser on those devices is a very cutdown affair and 30 hours won't be anywhere near enough for a facebook addict imo.
It's the next stage on from their older PocketSurfer products. I used to have one but moved on to a netbook and 3G dongle which is much better. Here is what I thought of the PocketSurfer - http://www.digitalham.co.uk/nonham/datawind_pocket_surfer_2.php - the way they deliver web content is quite clever and you can (or at least could) buy an unlimited bolt-on and a new year of connectivity but even now I imagine they are poor even compared to a smart phone.0 -
Take a look at this Samsung N130 for £170. Very nice for the price.
You can get this E160 USB Modem for £20 and use whichever SIM card and connection software that suits.0 -

Ubisurfer = Waste of time. Much better a netbook as per the sammy recommended above.Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

I'm sorry, I don't apologise. That's just the way I am. Homer (Simpson)0
