Really need some advice, My elderly father in law bought an expensive second hand watch from a jewellers in Dec 09. He sold it to a specialist watch dealer last month and within half an hour of returning home he received a call from the buyer stating the serial number had been filed off. My father in law was very upset as he was completeley unaware of this and returned the money straight away, he has since spoken to the jewellers concerned who has alledgeley stated "you could of done it yourself for all I know" and refused to give him his money back or take any responsibility, the watch is worth less than a quarter of what he paid for it, where does he stand, any help would be appreciated.
What make of watch is it? You need to get an indepedent, professional opinion on whether the watch is genuine or just a copy."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
Its a gold rolex, and has confirmatiion its genuine, he's fanatical about watches and has done lots of business over the years with the jeweler without any problems, just a shame he didnt check for the serial number before he bought it.0

Who 'confirmed' it was genuine? With a missing serial number, anyone is going to douvy it's authenticity."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Filed serial number............possible stolen goods?
Sorry, i have a naturally suspicious mind. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
I can't think of any other reason a serial number would be filed off.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j
OU student: A103 , A215 , A316 all done. Currently A230 all leading to an English Literature degree.
Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -
If that is the case then report then return to the original jeweller and ask for proof of purchase?
If not......police?
TBH i dont have much experience (if any) handling stolen goods so i'm only going on common sense. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
