Very low mileage used car - good or bad?

  • I work for an OEM..

If it was an early build car, used for the press launch, then I wouldn't touch it..

When you start building a car - the early cars will have faults have don't come to light untill a few thousand have been built and customer used them and some the problems.. The manufacturer then puts changes into production to fix these problems..

By the time the car has been in production about a year, most of those early faults have been fixed..

If it was used as a press launch car - it's likely to have many of those faults.. esp as it's likely to have been built as a small number of cars.

I'd never touch anything that isn't from atleast a year after they started building the car..

That said, if you do go for it all the best..

I had an ex-Demo Volvo V50 which was fantastic right up until i crashed it.

Regarding the warranty. It should still have 4 odd months of the original warranty on it. I'd want the dealer to add the 12 months approved used warranty on top of that for some extra piece of mind.

Does the dealership have a chain and would they be able to move it one closer to you for viewing/purchase?
Arnold Clark and Douglas Park both move cars for customers - might make it more feasible.

Arnold clarke charged me £70 to move it to the one 100 miles closer to me.

But at the same time, press cars often have much much better paint finishes than a standard car. And after a few years in productions most cars go through a cost-saving phase where lots of little things are removed to save money.
Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.
