Shop has lost Jacket put in for repair

Partner put Spiewak jacket in for repair at a shop he has used before.
They have finally acknowledged that the jacket is lost, they don't know what has happened to it (had a range of excuses before this).
Annoyed that it is lost obviously, going to see them on Tuesday, anyone know what rights partner has? He previously paid them £50 for a one off patch on the jacket and to replace the jacket itself would be around £140!!
Any help on rights would be appreciated before we actually go up there to see them.

Well, it's their responsibility to take reasonable care while handling your jacket - which obviously they haven't, meaning they would be open to a claim from you. If they start playing up, you would have to pursue this through the small claims court but seeing as they have admitted already that it's lost, I'm sure it won't go that far.The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.

Similar jacket is on sale for £79 at the moment, if they agreed to pay for that then wouldn't pursue further, I do have a legal background although not in this field, so will put this to them as have no problem in raising a small claim, they are very worried about their reputation as they are an independent firm, so hopefully that will be an end to the matter.0

Went to see them today, I said that I wanted the jacket replaced, they said could not replace it as it had a hole in it (which was why the patch was put on at a cost of £40).
They said they still hoped they will find it.
Have given them 3 days to do so, they've had a couple of months already.
After this will I be within my rights to say if they do not cough up for a replacement jacket, we will be pursuing it through the small claims court?0 -
Absolutely - make sure you put your intentions in writing.
Whether the jacket had a hole in or not is irrelevent - they need to supply a suitable replacement. If that costs £140, then so be it."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0
