Hi Slenderkitten
You should definitely go for it. I worked for Royal Caribbean last year as a Guest Services Officer and although hard work, it was well worth it. The experience alone outweighed everything, and I had the best 6 months of my life. Been to so many destinations that if I think about it in an ideal world would have taken me until pension age to do.
I will PM you later on with the contact details of Royal Caribbean's hiring partner. Please do avoid those ones that ask for payment upfront.
Before you get hired you will have to go through an Interview, a test, and a Telephone Interview with the Miami Headoffice. Its not easy but it depends solely on you.
Just to let you know that you have to be a strong person to work on a cruise ship. You will be working over 70+hours a week and there is no such thing as a day off. Once you settle in to your role you will get the opportunity to visit the ports. Most people start of in Guest Services as it pays more, but there is opportunity to move around departments after you fullfill your 1st/2nd contract.
The cabins are extremely tiny, and I admit that when I arrived to my cabin that I was going to share, I cried lol!The crew were great and once your shift is finished you socialise and they have parties on the back deck. So its all a case of you "Work hard, you play hard".
Also the majority of the guests are Americans, and as they are not well travelled they did come out with the most bizarre questions, that left me speechless at times.
I got through my 1st contract and was set to go back but due to my aunt being ill, so I decided to stay and work for a Travel company here instead.I am now applying for Cabin crew, as I can't imagine staying in England doing a 9-5pm, and suffering in the cold ;_)
Good Luck and will PM you later0 -
