Fuel, P11d, Council Tax benefit

just want to check this out

we are currently claiming council tax benefit but they are classing the payments I recieve for fuel as income.

Is this correct as its paying for the fuel i have to pay out for to do my job (community nursing auxillary)

if they do :( would it be the higher or lower figure (claimed approx £2000 but only £600ish shown on P11d)

Any amount above HMRC rates (40ppm for first 10,000 miles then 25ppm after) are classed as taxable income. Are you getting paid more than 40p per mile?

For HB and CTB, when looking at earnings, we usually only disregard Tax, NI and 50% 0f the pension. However, if you are paid petrol and it is a cost incurred to do your job (as opposed to say petrol for travel to and from work in the mornings and evenings), they should be disregarded.
I currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.

    thanks Fluffymovie,
yes it is part of my job as i am a community nurse assistant and have to drive to do my visits which can be 60 miles per day.
will contact them and see if they will disregard it.
