Flashed by Grey Traffic Light Camera...
Hi,
Just wanted some info really...
Had to pick the missus up from gatwick this morning at 4am (live 45 mins away) - I was approaching a set of traffic lights and I went through just after it turned red and got flashed by a grey box by the traffic lights - no other traffic was around at the time...
I hold my hands up as I was obviously in the wrong.
Could someone tell me what the penalty is for jumping a red? fine? no. of points? I have been driving for 7 years with no points whatsoever...
Can you escape the points by going on one of these driving awareness courses?
Also is there a time limit to when they can issue a fine/points? if a couple of weeks pass with no sign of a penalty - will I have escaped?!
Thanks

normally you get a Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) in the post around 14 days after the offence. this is where you have to declare either it was you or someone else. fine probably £60 and 3 points. The downside is that the 3 ponts catagory will have a high chance of increasing your insurance renwal cost unlike a first speeding offence which normally doesn't0

I can't exactly remember where from, but I heard the fine can escalate up to £1000. Apparently it's considered more severe than speeding?! Not sure if that advice is still valid though. The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.

Thats only if it goes to court - if you admit it and take the fixed penalty its only £60.0 -
