help regarding overpayment??

hi in 2003/2004 renewal i completed it over the phone unfortunatly something went wrong and they had on there records i had not done a declaration for this year so my payments were stopped and i had to reapply and pay back the payments for thats year around £8000.

i spoke to someone at the tax credits at the time and did a appeal and they said they would check the phone records.

i heard nothing for 6 years then on monday recieved my annual declaration for 2003 and 2004 for me to sign and get my p60.

im really worried why now?

will this mean they will want the money back i was entitled to it it was just a error?

i did my annual renewal for 2003/2004 over the phone and the lady said that was all they needed i said should i try and get some paperwork up together as i have been reading about the specialist team and wondered if it might be linked she said no i said my son was in nursery at the time and as it was 6 years ago i am not sure of the figures or how to get them she said they are only interested in the p60.

she said it looks like they are giving me the chance to do my declaration now has anyone had any experience of this? really worried i no longer claim any benefits and cannot afford to pay it back in one go

if the overpayment only occured because they said you didnt renew at the time then i suspect if they are allowing you to finalise that yrs award now with your actual income that should cancel out any overpayment for good. i would try your best to get hold of your income for that yr and get it to them as quick as possible.

hi thanks for your responce i managed to get the figure from my employer i called the tax office but they dont hold it for that long i called them back did a annual renewal over the phone i had until the 28th july to give it im really worried about it as it is alot of money they have made no mention of paying it back since 6 years ago and the paper work looks very old it even has the old opening hours for the tax credit office on it.

i had heard that if there is no contact from myself or the benefit agency asking for the money they cannot request it after a 6 year period does anyone know if that is correct?

i was so worried i called a solisitor and they went on about fraud charges and criminal record and fines if i pay them £200 for starters they will sort it out for me felt really dodgy he wouldnt even let me speak he was going on about say for example you claim fraudulently but i didnt i was entitled to what i claimed and did the declaration over the phone i have done nothing wrong he really scared me

Are you saying the renewal notice you responded to at the time has just turned up in the post?

So you are now wondering if you did actually call them at the time?

no i did call them at the time i have moved since then. i heard nothing at all about it for 6 years then i had the annual renewal through for 2003/2004 it was dated 23rd june 2010 and the deadline was hand written for the 28th july 2010.

i closed my single claim in april 2010 and did my annual renewal for 2009/2010 and had it finalised in may always been on time with my renewal
