  • Just had a reply from BOI stating that they are treating my letter as a complaint and that it is being investigated by their internal complaints/compliance department.

If I get any further info from them other than a standard 'go away' letter I will post back here.
  • My update :

Abbey are in the process of sending out a cheque for £225 cheque as full refund :)
  • tonydee,

What stages did you follow to get the refund? Was the letter from the complaints manager followed directly by the refund or did you have to make further contact?

    Grateful for any info...

    • Initial letter sent 17th July asking for a "reduction".
    • Reply dated 26th July and basically saying no to any reduction
    • Letter 2 sent 28th July, stating that I'm still not happy
    • Reply dated 8th August saying they'll look into it more
    • Reply dated 24th August stating it's taking longer than normal to deal with. This letter signed by head of complaints
    • Reply dated 18th September stating that a full refund will be sent within the next 14 days

All in all I've only sent 2 letters and got more than I bargained for really. If you would like copies of what I wrote I will post them for you, excluding account numbers of course.

Thanks very much for the offer, which I'd like to take you up on. If you have them on your computer I'd be grateful if you could email (rather than PM me) with them.

    Thanks again,
    L

    Email sent ;)
  • Thanks very much for those, they were much better than my draft version. I think they achieve just the right tone, so fingers crossed :D.

Update - Sent my 2nd letter to the BOI and on the same day received the standard 'go away' letter from them, so on to the next stage... (I'm waiting with baited breath)

Got a final reply from BOI today.

They are sticking to their guns but as 'a gesture of goodwill' are willing to refund me the £50 difference between the original release fee (when I took out the mortgage) and the cost now. I think this is about as far as I'm going to get with BOI so not being one to look a gift horse in the mouth...

PS - Well done to Abbey for refunding tonydee the full amount.
