so....payment has been made and I will update snowball and sig in a mo.

Yes, I am very glad to draw a line underneath that. My biggest battle, though, was with myself as I was unsure whether to claim as I couldn't cope with the knockback of not being believed. But then I would remind myself of the endless trips to physio, and the drugged up days of too many painkillers, and tell myself to push on. All's well that ends well, though, and I am now generally pain free (aches now rather than pains) and obviously the money will be put to good use. Not enough to clear the debt, sadly, but enough to make a good step forward.

I did stop for a coffee on the way to work, and treated myself to a pastry too - I know how to celebrate :rotfl:

    gally - I hope you have a good holiday.....finally!

surfbabe, Amazon will be my first port of call - she is doing History, Human Biology, Psychology and PE.....glad to read that the baby is doing well. Positive vibes there x

se, the ski sessions that I was doing stopped through the summer hols and will restart in a week or so. Before that, I was still letting my hand repair, from my fall, so it is a while since I have been but I fully intend getting right back into it

Back in a bit when I have done the snowball......

So.....my barclayloan stands at £5872.67. It has 19/20 months to go at £317.11 and overpayments cannot be made.

I could try and transfer this to a 0% card to allow me to chip away at it bit by bit, but as the loan is only on 8.9%, has early repayment penalties, and a balance transfer would cost 3 or 4% to do, it does not seem worth doing to me.

So, instead, I will save up odds and ends of cash in my egg savings account as an offset for the barclayloan and hope to pay it off early instead. The figure that will be in my signature will be the outstanding balance less the offset amount I have so will be the amount I still have to find.

I want to get this gone asap because £317 is a big amount still to be coming out of my bank account, whereas the 0% card was a much smaller monthly figure each month, so although it is good to be rid of debt, it doesn't make much difference to my SOA at all.

However.......I still have half of DS's ski costs to find, and that needs to be done sooner rather than later, given that we are almost half way through September already.

I also still need to get some sort of emergency savings sorted as a priority because I have nothing to fall back on.

And, as we are back in ski race season for the next couple of months, there will be lots of petrol, race fees and travelodge rooms to be funded too.

So.....excellent news in some ways, but in others, not much has changed really, so no chance of losing the focus or easing up the budgets yet.

However, it is most definitely another step in the right direction :D

We tried to sue our surveyor over the house from hell 10 years ago. All it got us was deeper into debt and OH had a breakdown from all the stress. I'm therefore very wary of entering into such battles again.

She doesn't race much now - the time out from school is difficult to make up when you are in your exam years, and she decided herself that she would concentrate on school instead.

She still skis though, and helps with the coaching.....but just not as intensly as before. She will still go out on snow this winter, but just with me (hopefully) as a fun thing, without the expense of races, schooling and coaching, so I am not complaining there!!

So chuffed for you re the payout Hypno, another step forward for you! So excited as Mum and Dad are coming up today and we're off to see an exhibition at a museum. Mum hasn't been up for about 9 months due to her hip pain so this is a big step for her too. Great news on the tiny baby too and a beautiful day here X
