Do you claim any benefits at all ESA or DLA

Without going into to detail, what is the nature of your disability.

  • I am not registered blind. I do claim d.l.a and incapacity benefit. I suffer from multiple sclerosis, heart problems, high bp and pernicious anaemia.

Then, no. Your husband would not be able to claim any tax allowance for you.

You are getting your own tax allowance because IB is taxable. DLA is not taxable.

Have you applied for a free bus pass because of your disability (if you want one that is) under certain circumstances your
husband can be included on the bus pass as a companion who would also get free travel.

Not every council issues a companion pass

If they do issue a companion pass it is is issued when the disabled person would not be able to be issued with a driving licence due to medical grounds.

Or they get higher rate mobility DLA.

  • Thanks. I already have a bus pass even though l do still drive occasionally. The question was not asked on application.

Not true in my OH case, our council issues them to anyone who is disabled, my oh was 57 on long term IB, the ability to drive was never discussed or disclosed, and he only gets lower DLA. For about 4 years I was included in the pass until i got one in my own right.
I suppose every council is different, with a different criteria to meet.
